Coach House Restoration Update - Nov 2024
Work continues on the coach house restoration and a new academic year brings a new group of Burton and South Derbyshire College construction students to Sinai - getting hands on experience and learning and refining their skills in joinery, brickwork, electrics and surprisingly, bridge building!
Planning permission and SMC (Scheduled Monument Consent) was necessary for the work to be carried out, particularly for the next key stage of laying a pipe from the main Sinai building to the coach house.
The level 1 and 2 joinery students took on the task of digging out a 450mm deep trench and an opportunity for a mini archaeological dig, with the excavated earth carefully examined by the students, revealing medieval tile, pottery, glass bottles and even a Staffordshire Knot!
Temporary barriers and a bridge were built to ensure safety and access while the trench is in place.
With great thanks to the students, BSDC and our generous supporters including St Modwen Group, Staffordshire Access Scaffolding, Harlow Timber Group, MKM, the Luceco Group, Kraus Flooring, and V33.
